Becoming A Member/Member Expectations:
DUES – Members in the Gun Lake Area club pay an annual fee of $35.00. Upon paying their dues, members receive a copy of the annually updated Membership Manual which includes By-Laws, Standing Rules, contact information and more. Members are encouraged to participate in fundraising activities as their personal interest leads them. Several members who have moved away from this region still send dues and enjoy staying in touch through receiving the club newsletter and meeting minutes.
MEETINGS – Registered members attend monthly General Membership meetings held on the second Wednesday of each month throughout the year. Meetings begin at 9:30 a.m. and are announced in advance. Meeting locations can vary, so be sure to check ahead of the meeting day.
The Advisory Board (Executive officers, C.S.P. Chairs, etc.) meet at 9:00 a.m. on the last Wednesday of the month at the Yankee Springs Township Hall. All members may attend Board meetings as observers and/or are welcome to present an issue for discussion.
Member Activities:
There are many club activities that occur regularly, and many others that come up periodically. Below is a partial list, each one followed by the Community Service Program which guides its purpose. More detail on each of these can be found with the appropriate C.S.P. on the Community Service Programs page, or by clicking the links below.
Cards and Games
Club membership isn’t all work – we come together for socializing and fun too! This includes gathering at someone’s house to participate in cards and games and share treats once a month. Interested members take turns hosting on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. The games vary as selected by participants and the place is announced at meetings and in the newsletter. It’s a fun couple of hours to interact with other members on a smaller scale and get to know each other better.
Excursions
Field trips are always entertaining, and can be educational too! (See the Arts and Culture page.) Any member can suggest an excursion idea to the Advisory Board – as long as they’re willing to handle the details! Do remember though, that it’s helpful to have plenty of advance warning so the event can be announced at a General meeting, posted in the club’s newsletter, and added to the Events Calendar.
Once a year, Gun Lake Area club members partner with the Hastings GFWC clubwomen for a joint annual trip to Cornwell’s Turkeyville near Marshall, Michigan to see one of their amusing stage productions and enjoy a turkey dinner.
Mornings at the Movies has been a fun outing in the past. When there is interest in an exceptional movie, a group of members carpool to a local cinema, then enjoy talking about the movie afterwards while having lunch together at a nearby restaurant or café.
Please email your excursion ideas to info@gfwcgunlake.org.

Memory Books have been created each year for the Gun Lake Area club. Current club historian and fifteen-year member, Donna Podbevsek, collects articles, photographs, cards, letters and club records, placing them in attractive annual scrapbooks. The Memory Books are kept at Inspire Hair and Nail Studio at 2491 S Patterson Rd Wayland, MI 49348 for members to peruse at their leisure. Though the scrapbooks may not be removed from that location, a desk and chairs are provided at the library.
