Scholarships

From the earliest $100 scholarship given nearly thirty-five years ago, to this year when $15,000 was awarded, the women of GFWC in the Gun Lake Area have been and remain committed to helping local high-school students acquire financial assistance for higher education.

The GFWC-GLA club serves four school districts (Wayland Union, Thornapple Kellogg, Delton Kellogg and Martin,) and our philosophy has always been “what we do for one, we do for all.”  Consequently, scholarships to be earned at EACH school include a $2000 academic scholarship, $500 for Technical/Vocational Training assistance, and “up to $500” in Art Grants for two underclassmen or underclasswomen to participate in summer enrichment programs in the Arts.

Students interested in ANY of our academic, technical/vocational scholarships or art grants must complete the appropriate online application through the Barry Community Foundation.  The applications include several possible components: transcripts, class rank, written responses, letters of recommendations, and college board results. Additionally, in collaboration with the Barry Community Foundation, the GFWC scholarship reviewers select recipients based upon leadership skills, academic success, and community service.
